What Really Matters is a concept-driven album by Hong Kong singer and activist Denise Ho 何韵诗 (HOCC), released on 21 August 2007.
Album Overview
Produced under the Amusic label, the album explores themes of growth and the life journey. It draws a metaphor between music and wood grains, suggesting that just as rings record a tree’s history, songs engrave the path of a person’s life.
Track Listing
The album contains 12 tracks, including notable collaborations with songwriter Louis Cheung and lyricist Wyman Wong:
- Sense of Humor (幽默感)
- Curiosity Killed the Cat (好奇心殺死貓)
- Natural Tanning (天然沖晒)
- Sleeping Prince (睡王子)
- Big Red Envelope (大紅袍)
- At My Own Risk (以身犯險)
- Ant (螞蟻)
- Wood Grain (木紋) – One of the album’s most popular songs.
- Red Rooftop (紅屋頂)
- Moonlight Box (月光寶盒)
- Sleeping Prince (Mandarin Version)
- Wood Grain (Mandarin Version)
A “2nd Version” (加強版) was later released, which included a bonus CD with a “Wooden Heart Mix” of Wood Grain and a DVD featuring music videos and live footage from the Music Matters ’07 concert.
