梅艳芳 女人花

Woman Flower (Chinese: 女人花; alternative English titles: Flower of the Woman or Flowery Woman) is the 22nd studio album (and 5th Mandarin-language album) by legendary Hong Kong pop icon and actress Anita Mui 梅艳芳. Released in August 1997 by BMG Music Taiwan, it stands as one of her most critically and commercially acclaimed Mandopop records.

🌸 Core Theme and Concept

The album uses flowers as a metaphor to delicately explore the inner emotional landscape, vulnerabilities, and romantic longings of a woman. Departing from her earlier signature “wild” or “bad girl” dance-pop persona, this record features an elegant, traditional, and nostalgic aesthetic that heavily infuses classic Old Shanghai melodies and acoustic folk instruments. Mui’s deep, magnetic contralto voice drives the album’s melancholic and mature tone.

🎵 The Legendary Title Track 女人花

The titular lead single, “Woman Flower” (女人花), is arguably Anita Mui’s most famous Mandarin song.

  • Creative Team: It was custom-written for her by prolific Taiwanese songwriter Chen Yaochuan and lyricist Li Anxiu.
  • The Message: The lyrics paint a poetic picture of a woman swaying lonely in the mortal world, waiting for a tender hand to ease her isolation before her youth fades away.
  • Cultural Impact: The song was the main theme for the 1997 TV drama Eastern Mother. Decades later, it served as a poignant centerpiece track for her 2021 biopic film, Anita.
