“心债” (translated as Debts of the Heart or Heart’s Debt) is the debut Cantonese studio album by legendary Hong Kong pop diva Anita Mui 梅艳芳. Released in October 1982 by Capital Artists, the album served as her official introduction to the music world right after she won the inaugural New Talent Singing Awards in July of the same year.
💿 梅艳芳 心债 Key Album Overview
- The “Split” Format: Although branded as an Anita Mui album, it is actually a joint compilation. Side Afeatures 6 solo tracks by Anita Mui, while Side B features 6 tracks sung by The Tigers (小虎队)—a rookie boy band consisting of Sunny Lam, William Hu, and Chiang Ching-lung. Not.. not that famous Taiwan 小虎队. Which then leads to the question : What happened to these three guys after this album ?? Just realised one of the member is 林利 who is a great actor and has one of my favourite song, 负心.
- The Image: This record is highly unique because it presents Anita in a pure, sweet, “girl-next-door” style. This was her only album with this styling before she completely redefined herself as the avant-garde, rebellious, and ever-changing “Madonna of the East”.
- Commercial Success: Fueled by the massive success of its titular track, the album quickly went Platinum in Hong Kong in 1983, earning her the IFPI Hong Kong Top Sales Music Award for Best Newcomer
